Moms Make a Lasting Impact

My Mom died in November 1987 of Lung Cancer. I was 34 and just beginning to find out what motherhood was all about (my daughter had just turned 3 years old the day she died).  My Mom was a precious jewel and loved by all who knew her.  Her life was not an easy one but she never complained.  I never heard her say a harsh word about anyone.  She was kind, hard working, humble, and strong.  She knew the value of a dollar and knew how to make the most of what she had.

I was a strong-willed child and at times our relationship was strained...she wanted what was best for me and I thought I knew better than she did what was best.  I realize now her wisdom has grown by leaps and bounds and many times I wish I could have talked with her about life and how to make it work.

She does speak to me because some of the phrases she used to say to me resonate in my head.  That is where I came up with the idea of  framing Momisms.  You can google them online and find dozens.  Oh yeah, what is a Momism?  They are famous sayings used by Moms or things your Mom would always say to make a point.  Like...

•Money does not grow on trees.
•Don't make that face or it'll freeze in that position.
•If I talked to my mother like you talk to me....
•Always change your underwear; you never know when you'll have an accident.
•Be careful or you'll put your eye out.
•What if everyone jumped off a cliff? Would you do it, too?
•Close that door! Were you born in a barn?
I bet you are thinking of some your Mom said to you.  Right?
What I thought would make a "sweet vingette" is to frame your favorite momism and place her picture alongside it.  Here is part of the display, I placed in the shop at Happy's...

Notice the picture above...that is my Mom holding me when I was a baby.  Just too sweet!

Okay, well, here are some of the Momisms I have framed.

Well these are just a few.  I bet you have your own favorites.  I have plenty more in the shop.  I have cute frames to make many more...in fact here are some of the frames I could use...

Some frames could hold multiple sayings with Mom's picture right in the same frame.

I would love to hear some of your favorite Momisms and how they have made a lasting impact on your life.

If you are interested, I would be glad to make you a frame.

Happy Mother's Day!!!

Yard Sales Are So Much Fun

I have been to the best yard sales lately.  Several weeks ago, I went on a Friday and found so many wonderful things.  Here are just a few:

I have not repurposed all of the items in this picture but surprisingly most of them.  You might need to come back to this picture as a reminder as we go along.

By the way, just look at that great dresser/buffet.  Isn't she a beauty!!  Well potentially a beauty.  As you will see I have painted her and replaced several of her drawer pulls.  SWEET!

I have taken many of these things to Happy's.  Let's see if you can find them...

Do you see the painted dresser/buffet?  That 70's gold paint is gone and in it's place is "old white" and "dark wax" to give her that aged look.  She is distressed and ready to go!

Remember these?  Anyone who loves blue and white will love these...they were made in Japan.

In the picture above these black frames were gold...they have been painted and new ribbon added and put together as a vignette with the plate.

Remember seeing the glass vase and the small polka dotted trowel.  Who knew they would look so good together.  (sorry the color is so poor, I think I forgot to turn off the shutter and there was tremendous light coming in the window)

Another glass vase but this time with a cross.  I saw something similar to this at our church.  It would be a nice reminder to keep the truths of your faith before you at all times.

Isn't it amazing what you can do with yardsale finds!  I go regularly and thrift stores as well...If any of you need something particular and want me to be on the look out for a good deal...just let me know...half the fun is the unknown...what treasures are waiting to be found.  Ah ha!

Where Being Overwhelmed and Procrastination Collide

Oh, yes, that is me.  Not a good thing, right?  Those two characteristics can stop you dead in your tracks if you let them.

Since my last blog I have been very busy working on projects in my garage, helping with projects at my church, and of course, I have had the privilege of babysitting my grandson, Wyatt (who lives 3 hours away).  So I am just now getting back into my regular routine.

In my last blog, I offered readers the opportunity to share their favorite saying and WIN the chance to have it framed and the winner is (drum roll) Erica .   Click on her name and check out her blogspot.  She has two precious boys and clever ideas and she is very patient.  The reason I know that she is patient is because it has taken me a long time to get the frame she won in the mail.  Here is her frame with her saying...

The bus on top is a little on the "cutesy" side but I am a retired prek/k teacher and cute appeals to me sometimes.  In case, she preferred a not so literal display I sent a bird to go on top to replace the bus. Of course, I forgot to take a picture of the frame with the bird.

If you follow my blog you know I like to repurpose.  This frame started out as a Hallmark Calendar with a broken drawer...

Now, who would go to the trouble of changing that calendar everyday?  Really!  So, I used ribbon to hide the hole where the calendar was sitting and ribbon to hide the words and I glued the small drawer "closed" because there was a crack in the drawer.  Voila!

Let me know what you think!  Below my name click on comment or the small icon (envelope) to make your comment.
